Nice to see the pics of the protest, but pity everyone was 'smiling'

Yes, I know what you mean about us all smiling. I thought that when I saw the photo. They asked us to say 'cheese' as far as i remember. When you think about it though: it's appropriate that we should all be smiling - very English somehow. Even when we're having our community destroyed by a tyrranous corporation in secret collusion with local government officials who apparently regard democracy as a distasteful imposition on their time we keep smiling through just like we always do.

There must never be any unpleasantness in England, I've noticed. When I was walking through Exeter the other day, on the pavement, a bus drove into me from behind and knocked me flying. When it stopped at the bus stop I explained to the bus driver exactly why I was upset. He was a drooling half-witted cro-magnon who looked at me malevolently like he wanted to kill me, even though he was completely in the wrong. And the bus queue looked at me reprovingly like *I* was making a scene, even though I'd just been hit by a bus.

That really summed up this country for me.

So we have to keep smiling, you see, however desolatingly awful our circumstances are, because if we didn't the nice smiling friendly people of this septic isle would happily lynch us from the nearest tree, for conduct unbecoming.

Just wanted to record my thanks to Chris for last night's film and the discussion that followed. Plenty to do as a follow up - but worth doing if we value our town.
Thanks Chris

Thanks Tim, it was great to meet you and many others who have the concerns of the town at heart. it was an excellent evening and well attended for a first event. i want to fill it up for the next one though!

the discussion afterwards was good and i'll be sending a news letter around shortly with dates for the next event. i'm eager to get a core of people together soon to start some form of a steering group for this summer, if you, or anyone else has the time and will?!

tanks again!
