I start from the basis that I believe that Tesco, whilst it has provided us with ready access to all manner of goods that older generations would not have had access to, also does immense harm to communities. I use Tesco, but am trying not to wherever possible. The dominance of Tesco means the shops I would really like to do my business with, locally owned shops, are not available for all the goods I want. I don't like the fact that Tesco stock what they want me to buy, not what I want to buy. In non-food for example, they stock only the top CDs, DVDs books and sell many at loss leader prices. This means that the little book dealer man, who relies on a decent income from popular books, can't compete. That in the end means it is difficult for me to buy non best seller CDs and books etc. Food. There is no way Tesco need to sell us apples from China - my God the Chinese are selling everything else surely we don't need their fruit and veg. I don't believe that Tesco, or any other top supermarkets, treats foreign suppliers particularly well. I _object_ to the fact that it is often very difficult to see where some goods come from, even though the law requires origin to be stated for some food. There are far too many Tesco own brand products promoted. I don't believe own brand deals help suppliers, Tesco slash margins and have no qualms about dumping suppliers. Often own brand presence means the brand you want is not stocked. Again choice is reduced! Price check campaings are less than honest to my mind, they suggest that Tesco checks competitors prices and adjusts down - it doesn't, you are just meant to thin it does. Comparison is made difficult, Similar products side by side will have prices for one in kgs etc, the other in lbs, my brain is too old for such mental arithmetic gymastrics! The greed of Tesco and others has extended to the Argos type trading where products that cannot be kept in store can still be provided. This hits local traders in a wide range of retail and is unfair. The major p_layer_s, Tesco included are always looking to expand, they are never satisfied. That said I don't feel like _object_ing to their plans as I hope such expansion will, for the time being at least, do away with the Asda plans That should not be seen as support for Tesco, just a tactical reality view. I look forward to the day when I can once again buy everything I need from non national local shops. Already I use Liverton Farm (? on the way to Budleigh)) for eggs (the best) spuds and other veg, and good chicken. May cost a little more but the taste is so much better as is the cost to the environment. Thanks for listening Mr Tesco
PS. Can we please have a bin to get rid of all that unwanted packaging on so many of your goods
