Lin, your contributions are very valuable to this debate, you are the one who started it after all!
If you ask anybody at ECF or ECA you will find that there ARE viable alternatives being proposed .... please, ASK somebody in either of these groups. The information is there, all you have to do is WANT to look for it!

For the record, I don't think, and wasn't suggesting, that EDDC had any connection with the Flybe decision re additional flights. I do not know if said individual came up with the solution, I doubt it personally.
The spokesperson for flybe that I have seen quoted is a Richard Jenner and not the lady I am thinking of. (http://www.uk-airport-news.info/norwich-airport-news-310308.htm)
I merely point out the leader's connection with both organisations.
If EDDC claim green credentials for all their members then I think there are grounds to challenge such a claim in part, unless of course some declare an interest.
That was really the point I was trying, not too clearly perhaps, to make.

Some interesting points made their Lin, I wonder if, for the sake of clarity, I can pick up on a few. Don't take it personally though .
There is an almighty difference between a supermarket and a superstore, the latter is defined as having over a certain area for sales (there is always a big chunk more non sales area)We are talking of a superstore from Asda, I have heard it described as twice the size of Exeter Catherdral - not sure of the numbers myself. Superstores sell a wider range of goods than just food.
We have to use our valuable time to argue against the development rather than put all our effort into coming up with alternatives. __object__ors are not paid for their work, they don't have the endless resources of the world's largest reatiler at their disposal. Asm/Asda are not interested in alternatives.
Just what is the need for another retailer, how should it be quantified? Much of the case for another superstore is __base__d on Tesco 'overtrading'. That situation is likely to disappear if they get approval for their expansion plans- and of course they will. So, are we left needing a small supermarket, a large one, or something as massive as is proposed?
Is the need for a supermarket real or is this just an opportunity for the district council to make money from the sale of land? That one site happens to be owned publicly should not be a reason for choosing that site. There are others that have already been mentioned, some part public owned, others not. The site should be the feature that matters not who owns it.(although councils have additional responsibility to care for publicly owned land)
Of course there are people who want an Asda on the estuary - but are their reasons valid and are they many in number?
Forgive me for repeating myself but there have been many opportunities for people to support the idea, EDDC has bent over backwards to tweak the numbers in favour of such development, but every time the majority who can be bothered to show interest have firmly rejected EDDCs proposals. Put simply, where are all these Asda supporters? Of those who have come out in favour, few seem to give what I would regard as reasonable grounds for destroying the estuaryside. That it is personally more convenient, or that one doesn't like Tesco are, to my mind not valid reasons. Reasons for should show benefit to the community - but it is not easy to come up with any proof of this I suggest.
When it comes to being tarred with a brush, then, in respect of this matter few have been so tarred as the members of ECF. They have had all manner of accusations levied against them. In the most polite, public officials and elected members have referred to them as trouble makers - that's democracy for you. A previous mayor tried to hold a number of people personally responsible for the financial costs of the referendum that was held in the town - it was done just before a vote on the issue and frightened some into not voting as they really wanted. It was a disgraceful episode in Exmouth's democratic history - though steps were taken to ensure that the record did not fully reflect what went on.
Why do some of us continue after all the grief it causes us? The answer is simple, we care about Exmouth and want to leave our children and grandchildren a place to be proud of.

Move the Post Office into the vacant Job Centre, build a good sized food store on the PO site, slap another _layer_ of parking on the London Inn car park and stick a roof over the Magnolia centre. This planning stuff is easy!!! While we're at it - Bus depot to Liverton Ind. Est. and landscape the estuary side, Library (if it really needs to move) & Visitor Centre to the Lizzie Hall(Under no circumstances should this be sold!!. Job done.

I must say, from a neutra point of view as I have to be, your last post has me in fits of giggles. I would love to hear what others have to say.

Now THAT is what I'm talking about when I ask for alternative plans! I like that idea a lot (providing the store is open late and has a far better stock than Somerfield)!
