The poll is now back up on the home page.. it's on the right hand side of the screen. Looks like 160 people voted.

Tesco's expanding is all well and good but they take people away from the town rather than bring them into it.

I can't think where the London Inn is... is it behind the centre carpark? If so, then I would have thought the site was too small. Same goes for the KFC roundabout area - I don't think a small food market would suffice... we already have Somerfield for that but I know many people won't shop there because they don't stock enough variety.

I agree it would be lovely to see a greener estuary with complimentary shops/restuarants but I doubt that will ever be on the cards as it won't bring in enough revenue. I really can't see the problem with putting Asda on the Exe... it would simply be in place of the leisure centre and bus station which are already there (obviously with increased traffic though).

I have toyed with sending a letter to the journal... I'll think about it!

Lin, if you do write to the paper, please mention us here on Exmouth Online! The London Inn Carpark is behind the magnolia center, near somerfields opposite Porky Downs, Urban Republic, British Heart Foundation. I personally believe the major problem in the town center is lack of parking. There were plans on the London Inn car park becoming a multi story. These plans were scraped but would be nice to see them back on the tables.

I do know Tony, the Town manager, is doing a fantastic Job for the town and everyone involved and I honestly believe, that the people who make there minds up will not do anything that will ruin the town. A big thank you to all those working hard on the redevelopment.

In terms of the vote, I placed it up here before I saw your post Sceptic but as Lin said, you can see the results in live time. It is polls like this that everyone can use, it only takes a few seconds rather than writing and posting a letter that can take a long time, thi sis why they are a great way to gauge peoples views and I will be honest, even I did not think results would be the way they are!

Obviously, I am trying to stay neutral in all debates on the Exmouth forums given the position I am in as adminsitrator and I will keep my own views private due to this but it is really interesting seeing where this is going. Please invite all your friends and family to join in the debate as i am in regualr contact with the council and town management keeping them updated with the way things are going and this is a great place to air your views, the whole reason I set the site up in the first place. Just see this video to see the proof!

Trouble is Lin, as I see it, Asda will take away the trade from the small shops, so there won't be a town to go to! Asda sells everything and cheaply. It's more convenient to get everything under one roof and take it back to the car in a trolley.

Out present traders will lose their living and Exmouth will lose it's charactor. They seem to be doing a good trade right now when I shop there.

I think the present Tesco is sufficient actually.

What impact would Asda have on the Exe Trail?

Glad to see the pole is back. I didn't know about it or this website until I went to the last 'Against Asda Meeting'. I think it should be mentioned in the Journal.

Thank you Moonwolf, I set the site up last year and officially went live on July 4th 2007. Since then, the support of the site has kept growing and a big thank you to thejet49 for mentioning the site at the ASDA meet. Due to the fact that the site is a community site, all money raised by adverts etc goes into the running of the site, I do ask that if you would like to mention the site to the paper, friends, family, then all you can do to help it grow would be great and much appreciated.

In regards to shopping local, a interesting question I was asked a while ago was "when was the last time you bought from a local trader and how often do you buy rather than going to national chains, supermarkets etc?" You maybe surprised with the answer you receive from most people.
