The Council is keen to hear from public spirited residents in East Devon who are interested in learning more about how local councils are run and in promoting high ethical standards among elected councillors and officers, both at district and parish level.

The position is an important and responsible one, which can involve adjudicating complaints about any councillor misconduct.

Anyone may apply, as long as they are not related to, or a close friend of, a current councillor or officer and provided they have not been a member or officer of any local authority in the last five years.

Denise Lyon, EDDC’s Monitoring Officer and Deputy Chief Executive, said: “If you have a few hours a month of spare time and the enthusiasm to get involved, we’d be pleased to hear from you. The Standards Committee is committed to promoting high standards of conduct at all levels within the Council. This appointment provides an excellent opportunity to become part of the process to make sure that the Council conducts its business ethically”.

To find out more, please contact Mr Chris Lane, Democratic Services Officer, on 01395 517544.

Don't know whether to laugh or cry!!

I also see that Darryl Nicholas is the town's new Champion ... but that his brief still states that he will be expected to
"understand and express the opinions of the community"
