Exmouth is a great place to explore by bike. A cycle along the seafront or along the Exe Estuary await with some truly fantastic views.
Exmouth also acts as the start of the Exe Trail, a cycle and walk path that runs to Exeter and Starcross.
Exmouth is also the staging point for Stuart Line Cruises which take bikes at no extra cost to stops along the Exe Trail. The name Exmouth comes from the town being at the mouth of the river Exe and is home to 2 miles of golden sands.
The start of the Trail is just by the railway station where there is lots of safe and secure parking. There is a large number of cycle hire places also which include Exmouth Cycles.
River Exe Cycle Trail
The cyclepath and walkway, runs 26 miles around the entire Exe Estuary linking Exmouth, Exeter and Dawlish. The route itself is fairly flat and takes in the most fantastic views along the River Exe with lots to see and do along the way.
The pathway has been developed and constructed by Devon County Council as part of the National Cycle Network Route 2 and is fairly unique. Attracting tens of thousanads of cyclists a year, the route features regular train stops and ferry services meaning, that if you are not a serious cyclist and do not want to do the full 26 miles, you can choose to hop off, hop on the route at your leisure using the ferry and trains.
Further more, each stage of the cycle path often has a great place to eat or drink and much more besides.
At the start of the cycle path, Exmouth is well placed with a long stay car park and a further extension to cycle along Exmouth seafront too.
